Immigrant Deportation Roundups Protest June 30 at Joe Marino statue
This Sunday, June 30 at 2 PM, there will be a rally to protest President Trump” threat to round up immigrants in cities for the purpose of deporting them. This has led to fear and concern in our immigrant communities. While this is supposed to be for undocumented immigrants, these round ups can also ensnare those in this country legally and cause families to be separated. The League is opposed to family separation. I emphasize that this is not a League-sponsored protest but want to make you aware of it. The rally will be held in front of the Joe Marino Statue on State and Water Streets.
National Vigil: “Lights for Liberty” July 12 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd
The next event is a League-sponsored event (one of many sponsoring groups). It is a Vigil which is an offshoot of a National Vigil called “Lights for Liberty”. This vigil is to protest the inhumane and cruel treatment of asylum seekers (including young children and babies) at our Southern Borders. Asylum seekers are not breaking any laws. By US and international law, they are permitted to enter the US anywhere and ask for asylum. The horrific condition of the treatment of children was brought home to us in stark reality this week.
The vigil will be held at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1829 N. Rockton at 6 PM on July 12th. Please consider attending to show support for asylum seekers and refugees.
