Monday, November 11, 2019 is Veterans Day. We owe a debt of deep gratitude to all our veterans and to those currently serving in our military. Thank you for keeping our country safe.

Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 12:00 PM: Local Government Committee Meeting at Katie’s Cup, 502 Seventh Street, Rockford

School Board Meetings. Please try to attend your local School Board meeting and ask them to vote against arming school personnel, Resolutions 1 and 3 at the Annual IASB Convention.

Tuesday, November 19, 2019: General Membership meeting, The documentary, ” The Great Hack,” will be shown at 6:00 PM at the UU Church 4848 Turner Street. Excellent film explaining how Cambridge Analytica was able to influence the 2016 U.S. election. the Brexit referendum and elections in Nigeria.

LWVGR and AAUW  are sponsoring Fundraiser for Asylum Seekers featuring Linda Zuba 6:00 PM Friday, December 6, 2019 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard 1829 North Rockton Avenue. Please plan on attending to support this worthy cause.

Holiday Party: December 8, 2019 at former Just Goods Listening Room, 201 Seventh Street, 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Please attend and enjoy some good food and good company with your League members.

Community Events:
AAUW is hosting an evening with Linda Zuba as she relates , “Stories from the Border,”  her eye-witness account of the horrors being visited on women and children at our southern border, November 13, 2019 at 6:00 PM at North Suburban Library, 6340 North Second Street.

LWVGR is a coalition partner of the area Celebration of the Suffragists and passage of the 19th Amendment taking place throughout 2020. It will be culminated with the dedication of a sculpture marking this Anniversary on August 18, 2020. Fundraising activities are underway to pay for the sculpture. SPoRT makeup is introducing their 2020 Red Lipstick. The lipstick sells for $18.00 and 20% of each purchase is being donated to the Public Art Installation (the Sculpture). The Lipstick may be purchased at Crimson Ridge. SPoRT makeup is owned by International Women’s Baseball Center.
