The League of Women voters of Greater Rockford, Illinois (LWVGR) will present a two-part lecture via Zoom, for the Rock Valley College Center for Learning in Retirement on Wednesday June 16, 1–3 p.m. and Friday, June 18 1–3 p.m.
On Wednesday, LWVGR President Emerita, Jo Minor, will speak on League priorities in general and H.R.1, the “For the People Act,” which insures federal oversight of elections. Voter Services Chair, Carol Davies, will present on H.R.1 voting rights implications, reflections on the November 3, 2020 election, the rise of voter suppression, and the Electoral College.
On Friday, LWVGR Member and local artist, Janie Wilson-Cook, M.A., will present the historical problems with access to voting in America, the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote and a virtual biographical exhibition of the portrait ensemble, “Heroes of American Women’s Voting Rights,” a group of seven suffragists portrayed in acrylic canvases commissioned by The League in 2020.
