Volunteers-

This looks to be a fantastic day! We are doubling up on National Voter Registration Day! We are hosting not one but two mass registration events on Sept. 17th. Barb Meeks is our contact and has been fantastic in helping organize this event at Roosevelt. Ruth Swanson set out your assignments for the day in the attached schedule. I will be present all day. What Barb did was establish 3 classrooms for registrations and students will be coming into these classrooms to register to vote. Barb assigned a volunteer from the school to assist us whose name appears beneath the room numbers.

The library registration table is very active. I’ve just had the NAACP ask if their DR’s can help and I will ask them to be at the library table if they can help out.

In the classrooms try to speak to the group first, have everybody take the oath then start pigeonholing students to register. My philosophy is “don’t take no for an answer”keep working on the kids! Everybody should have 25 forms with them so you don’t run out during the day.

Last year our highest one day total of voter registrations was at Guilford HS with 154 registrations. We are aiming to beat that with both schools this year.

Once again your efforts have been tremendous and you are all champions of democracy!

WHY -. The purpose of this event is to educate voters about the upcoming election in Boone County and get feedback on what issues are important to them.
